Melbourn Judo Club was founded in April 1980 and icelebrates it's 28th Birthday on 19th April 2008. The club currently has 70 members. Junior members aged from 5 to 16 years and Senior members over 16. The club also has a very high ratio of female membership, coached by 2 female Dan Grades (Black Belts). On September 3rd 2005 the club relocated to the new Royston Leisure Centre. With the help of funding from North Herts District Council the club has replaced and enlarged it's mat area to 200sq. metres for practice and competitions.
Club Fees are currently; Juniors (5 - 15yrs) - £42.50, & Seniors (16yrs +) - £58.00 per half year. Fees are paid in advance, in April and October of each year. No weekly fees are payable once half year fees are remitted. On taking up club membership, members MUST join the British Judo Association. Under the new BJA initiative of "No Licence - means - No Insurance - means - No Judo." Forms are provided for this. The club is administered by a "fully constituted" - elected Committee of parents and senior members under the Chairmanship of David Parry MBE. Activities
The club is affiliated to the British Judo Association, which is the Sport's National Governing Body, and is a very active member club of the Eastern Area, taking part in numerous competitions, Gradings and events each year. In May 2002 the Club acquired funding from the National Lottery 'Award's For All' scheme that has allowed it to develop a number of new coaches.
